OLCC to Recommend Additional Two-Year Moratorium on Issuance of New Rec. Production Licenses
During today’s Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (“OLCC”) meeting, OLCC Executive Director Steve Marks announced that the OLCC is going to recommend to the Governor and the Legislature that the state continue the moratorium on issuing new OLCC recreational marijuana production licenses for an additional two years.
Marks cited the ill effects production licensees have endured as of late – due, in part, to a growing number of illegal grows undercutting the market – as rationale for the recommendation.
The moratorium on OLCC recreational marijuana production licenses was initially imposed via SB 218, which Governor Brown signed into law on June 17, 2019. The bill imposed a two-year moratorium on the issuance of new OLCC recreational marijuana production licenses, which is set to expire on January 2, 2022.
When asked about potential moratoriums on the issuance of new retail licenses, Marks stated that the OLCC plans on reviewing the issue but is not prepared to recommend a moratorium on retail licenses at this time.
